Periodically, I'll be putting a spotlight on one of the members of The Open Book Community. This month, I'm thrilled to feature Lyda Michopoulou from Athens, Greece.
Lyda (they/them) has been an Open Book member since we launched! Their preferred genres are non-fiction, memoir, poems- most recently a haiku! Lyda is currently working on a book about their journey as a nonbinary person in a binary world.
When they aren't writing, Lyda is a Life Transitions Coach (and founder) at Unwrapped Evolutions.
Some fun facts about Lyda:
Hogwarts House: Slytherin
A major cheese lover!
They keep a running list of Hallmark movies to watch for a pick-me up
Here's a bit of what Lyda recently shared about their writing process and experience in The Open Book Community! 👇👇
What do you love about writing?
The freedom that I have to find my own style and explore what I want to write without boxes and labels. Just show up and uncover a part of myself to others through my writing. The diversity of unique voices emerging and making themselves known to society. The power that comes with writing and expressing yourself, with uniting under a cause to ultimately change yours and someone else's world.
What is one of your writing challenges?
The messy middle (being stuck, not writing, not doing anything) with the book. I know what I need to write but the words aren't flowing out. Yet. So, instead of worrying and pushing/pressing myself to deliver, I've decided to enjoy this period of messiness and go through it, instead of around it!
What do you value most about The Open Book Community?
The support and appreciation at the Salons, the diversity of unique voices, the gentleness with which Kim hosts the circles and the freedom to show up as you are. 💜
What's a piece of advice you would give to other writers or people who feel like writing "imposters"?
Ditch the impostor syndrome that society has been raising all of us with. And see yourself as a new learner/learning enthusiast. You are learning how to write a book, an article, a blog, an email, anything. And because you are learning, you can do as many mistakes and fail as many times as you want/like! Learning through life is a great way to keep going! 🌝
Lyda, it's been an honor to have you as a member of the community since the very beginning and to step alongside you on your writing journey. Thank you!
