Note: This post references prompts to explore your writing practice and set intentions. You can access these prompts here (and below).
It is difficult for many of us to focus right now. Making long-term plans feels futile and dedicating time for ourselves can feel misaligned.
Your writing can be a place to explore all that you are holding in this moment.
Your writing can be your spiritual practice.
It can be self-care.
It can be a place to rage and grieve.
It can be a place to dialogue with yourself about hope, possibility and more.
As you determine how you want to engage with your writing practice in this season, I invite you to in a briefly reflect in the following three areas:
Your current status. What does your writing practice look like today? How do you feel about that?
Looking ahead. What are your goals/aspirations? These are typically a specific and future-oriented milestone with a tangible outcome. At this moment, these may be targeted (write a book, post monthly on Substack) but they may also be more general (get more consistent with journaling, try my hand at fiction).
Set your intention(s). They provide a source of meaning and strength to support your efforts. How do you want to feel when it comes to your writing? How do your personal values show up in your writing practice?
I've created a series of questions/prompts for you to explore each of these areas more deeply. The idea is not to answer every single question. Find one or two in each section that resonate with you. Then, pick up your pen and see where it takes you...
The prompts are here for you below whenever the time is right. 👇

Intention-Setting Reflection Prompts...
Current State
When you reflect on your current writing practice, what comes up? Try not to judge the feeling.
What are you proud of when it comes to your writing?
What brought you here today to prioritize this opportunity for reflection?
What comes up for you when you think “I am a writer.” Does this resonate? In what ways? What does this identity mean to you?
What does it mean to you for you to say you “show up” for your writing? Are you currently doing this? If not, what’s getting in the way?
Goals & Aspirations
Do you have any tangible goals or aspirations when it comes to your writing? Short-term? Long-term? “Maybe someday”?
What’s something you are excited to do/try with your writing but is also a bit scary?
What’s something you can realistically continue or begin this year?
Intentions
The Bigger Picture:
What does “success” look like for you? What about “failure”?
What would it look like to “trust yourself” as a writer? What would it feel like?
The “Feelings” Bit:
What does the word “alignment” mean to you in the context of your writing practice?
How do you want to feel about your writing this month? This season? This year?
Is there a word or overarching theme that you want to connect with?
How will you treat yourself throughout your writing process?
